So...what is the point in everyday wear now?

With Seasons coming, where the hot and cold outfit categories will have some gameplay effect, what do you do for everyday wear? (I haven't watched the livestream so idk if this has been answered but) wouldn't sims pretty much never be in those everyday outfits as the weather will either be hot or cold? I'm just struggling to figure out what kind of clothing to give them for everyday wear. Is it just going to be clothes that they wear around in the house?

Edit:
I decided to update this with what I have been doing for the outfits. I change their everyday outfits to suit the new season they are in (which is a bit time consuming ngl but I haven't got too frustrated doing it yet). I also give them a second everyday outfit, like a rain jacket for thunderstorms since rain doesn't start in any particular temperature. Then for hot weather I just do a t-shirt with shorts and a hat or sunscreen. And for cold weather I just have a big coat/jacket for the snow, with snow boots.

Also, I had to change the season's cycle to every 14 days because I was going into CAS too often :D but that has helped a lot, and the holidays now feel more natural and spread out, with sims not having three days off a week because a new holiday is popping up. So I recommend doing that if you've had the same problems.

  • From what I understand from Sims 2, you normally wear everyday wear, but when you go outside in the winter weather, your sim changes into winter wear right at the door. Maybe they will implement this in sims 4? They will change at the door? Also when you manually tell them to wear it. I think if you override the thing and go outside in everyday wear, your sim will get cold fast. I'm not too sure about how this works, because I usually disable the winter season in my game. I get enough winter in real life.

What happens if you don't have the seasons expansion? Will my sims be switching between outfits without the expansion?

Your Hot Temp Outfits = Your Go to method of Keeping Cold.

Your Cold Temp. Outfits = Your Coats to keep you warm.

So Does the outfit category keep your sim warm/cool?
or is it the actual amount of clothing in the outfit?

I think it is determined by predetermined categories. I don't think the game would differentiate by the amount or style of the clothing.
  • Based on the livestream it seems your sims will only change into their normal wear when going indoors if the temperature inside is warm or cool enough because it can be cold enough inside that your sims will put on their cold weather wear and vise versa if it's hot inside. That's what the thermostat is for, to help keep your sims warm or cool.

Now to my knowledge your sims can't die from the cold or heat when inside (unless you use the thermostat) but they will be very comfortable.

So, if your Sim wears a Cold Temp outfit, they can't possibly freeze to death, even in a blizzard?

That's the way I understood it on the stream, and vice versa for hot weather clothes making them immune to extreme heat.

Hmm not sure how I feel about them being completely immune. On one hand, I’m glad I can select my own outfits for those slots, but I would think it should “help” shield them from the extreme temps but not totally. During a heat wave you can be almost nude and still swelter from the heat and during an extreme cold, clothes can only do so much.

    I don't think so.

No, they won't. But if you upload those Sims to the Gallery, someone with Seasons will have their Sims use them.

Thank you! You and some others are like a walking Sims wikipedia.
  • If your sim goes swimming to cool off during hot wather, and they hang out next to the pool with their swimsuit on, will they burn to death because they are wearing their swimsuit and not their hot weather outfit?

Honestly, I wonder if those categories could come in handy for those who don't own seasons if say, a tropical island pack comes out.. and maybe there would be weather effects in those types of packs even for people who don't have seasons?? Similarly if there's some kind of destination that requires it to be super cold... IDK just a thought.

    Yeah, that’s definitely a possibility.
