My Sim has lost at least 5 Sims she knew well enough to get the phone call, plus who knows how many that she didn't know (I get the notifications from MCCC) but I didn't take note of how many till the game started killing off my Sims' friends, all felled while jogging. Turning off temperature effects till this gets toned down; jogging should keep you warm enough to stave off death.
Two of the deaths left orphaned offspring. I lost Cassidy and Gunther Munch on the same night; I had the teens sell the house and move to an apartment in San Myshuno; their step-brother Emory Holiday was already there so he moved in with them. The other was a single mother who left a small child, but I had my MCCC settings to have a random household adopt in cases of neglect or orphaned, so she's still in the game.
