I think the main thing is that everything is optional. No offense because everyone is entitled to an opinion but I don't really like pitting different versions of the game against each other. It's ok to be a fan of TS1, TS2, TS3, TS4, speculative-in-terms-of-content TS5 and any combo thereof.
In terms of the packs, no one needs to buy them all. There are sales including ways to pick up a lot of content at once and packs were released gradually. Many people picked up an item here and there, shopped a sale or three/four, or just said, "I'm just interested in X packs." All of that is fine. It's also different than needing to buy the content to play at all.
I did not play in 2014 and the earlier packs were weaker but other than some bugs, the new packs are really interesting and they have improved the game. For example, I really like the sentiments and find that they shape more of the direction of things now. Ok, at this stage there are a lot of packs, but I don't think the answer is to say, "Well, time's up, sorry that you wanted to keep playing." Nothing is wrong with putting out content if people want it which they seem to. I also don't think they need to repeat history just because things have been a certain way in the past.
I completely agree with the person who said that it's interesting now that they are getting away from just repeating concepts of TS3. Similarly, this is part of why I haven't been in a hurry for TS5. Why be in a rush to release the same types of packs or content again?
TS2 was really fun and I don't judge anyone for continuing to play it. Personally, I can't really go back to that era of graphics / pop cultural references / yes, a lack of diversity but I don't judge others for doing so. There were great features in each version. Since I am still having fun, I'll keep playing. While real lifing is picking up for me again, I look forward to seeing what is around the corner. I actually think the visual style has improved recently as well, like beautiful cartoons.
If the complaint is that TS4 has been running too long and therefore has released too much content, I disagree. Could the basegame have been different? Sure. Have things improved? Yes, I think so, especially if they keep working on the performance. Let's try not to kill the joy of other players if possible. If anything, I think it is better that they are listening to more feedback now. Not all of us want the same things. The decision to pick up any content at all is voluntary as well as it was with the previous versions. Yes, that argument can be made about content that I don't want and I can avoid getting it.
I just want to add that this would be a bit like saying, "There are too many mods for this game," because I don't play with mods. They exist because people make them and other people use them. Just because I don't use them doesn't mean I should begrudge their existence and the fun that others have with them.
