EA has an awful reputation. People hate the company. People complain that EA destroys studios (and Sims doesn't count because Sims has always been an EA franchise -- yes, even Sims 1). People are rightly appalled at the gambling surprise mechanics in games that are exploitative at best. But, most importantly, people still buy the games and that's what EA cares about.
But yes, at least EA encourages a diverse workforce and actively donates to causes to get more young women into STEM. They are not on my boycott list, unlike, oh, Activision Blizzard.
Edit: As far as content goes, I think Sims 4 needs some fundamental changes to the way Sims function, but asking for less content won't bring those changes about. I mean, if they were to try to release a Personalities and Actions that Make Sense EP, there would be tons of screaming (I'd have my pitchfork ready). But if the packs stop being made, the changes that should be base game stop as well.
Sims 4 is not a complex game. No Sims game really is. Sims 4 definitely needs more fail states IMO, but I can't picture that being too popular.
