The trouble with 'less is more' with a game like TS4, is that this is the kind of game where I don't think many people would be okay with that. I happily played the base game in 2017 for a very long time before I bought my first pack, so I can definitely see what you're getting at, but I don't think many players would be happy with the concept of less being more; there's already a lot of things players still want. I said to someone else on another thread I'd be happy to wait longer for EPs/GPs if it meant fixing bugs and optimising things, but I don't know how other players would feel about it since I've read a few complaints on the matter (mainly people want to see more Kits, which is odd considering how controversial they were when they were first released.) For the most part, I think many modern gamers constantly want more and more every time. If people keep buying, big companies will keep churning out content instead of improving a game in its current state.
I mean, even after many EPs, GPS, Stuff Packs, basegame updates, like I said earlier people still want a lot of things added to the game- cars, fairies, werewolves, graveyards, all-swimmable water, more careers and 'free babies' are common things I see around. (And that's fine, people can ask for whatever they want to see in the game, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! - but I'm just making a point that this is the kind of game where I don't think people would be happy with a lack of updates.) I returned to TS4 in 2017, since I played briefly in 2014 and thought the game was utterly abysmal when I initially played it. When I got it for console in 2017 a lot of my issues with the game were sorted.
@Pamtastic72 honestly has a point when they say: 'I don’t understand why you continue to frustrate yourself about this game. You have made it abundantly clear that you dislike it intensely'. You are welcome to your opinion, as is everyone else, but I would say don't worry so much about the state of a game you stopped playing in 2017, it is a waste of both time and emotional energy. Stick with your old favourites, enjoy the nostalgia, it's more fun that way. Sometimes the oldies are the goodies.
I try my best not to draw too many comparisons to the older games because for me, each 'generation' of Sims has something that I love- TS1 has the nostalgic air and relative joyful simplicity, TS2 had the depth and variety of animations, TS3 had the open world and somewhat more realistic style, and TS4 has the more vibrant air, and the Emotions system, Sentiments, Likes, Dislikes etc. A lot of people, I notice, seem to want TS4 to be almost just like TS2, but if that happened the argument would then probably be 'It's just like the old games, we're just playing the same game over and over again!' Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see some older features come back to TS4, but we can't always expect the newest game to be like the ones that we previously liked. I too was let down by the features of the newest game in another fave game series, but I understand that times change, so do players and the types of players, what players want, and so on. It's not going to be the same as it was approx 20 years ago, but that's all the more reason to go on a trip down memory lane and stick with old favourites. < 3
