The sims needs more content within the base game. I love expansion packs but let's face it in 2020+ indie start up games in early access on steam at $20 offering more gameplay/content than a sims expansion. I am perfectly fine with paying $50 even for a expansion pack if the base game was developed every step of the way.
How long has the sims 4 been in development now? Nearly a decade! Yet development of base game halted post launch, Sure we got patches and fixes(pools and toddlers) and maybe new tshirt... I am talking big game changing update patches with solid content for simmers. Content like pools should have been in content updates naturally because naturally the game is still being developed... yet it's not being developed, its expansions! Standalone mini games and basegame has been thrown on backburner. If you don't have strong basegame you can't have strong expansion packs. Also god I would respect EA if they continued development of basegame so much that $50 for EP wouldn't even bother me... I might even catch myself defending the sims from naysayers. Yet, I can't defend the paygate the game has become and the poor state of the basegame.
You would think this would make sense for EA? $50 for expansion pack? Kits and expansion packs. Kits allow us to really narrow down the items we want without spending $40+ on EP! because not every simmer buys EP's for gameplay elements, some purchase just for clothing or hairstyles. Kits should continue offering clothing but also hairstyles & makeup combos. A lot more players are comfortable spending $10 on couple nice kits than $40+ on EP they're weary they might not enjoy.
Madden releases a new title every year and people line up to pay $60 for it. If EA just did 1 expansion per year at $50 they would continue to make profits, as well kits. They could do kits to their hearts content, one every 2 months and I would buy them... as long the kits weren't buggy and the base game was also being developed with content every 2-3 months. I understand sometimes you can't make quota or you're working on massive content patch that's taken 4-6 months. However, game's still being developed and you're still getting my love and money and I am a understanding and satisficed customer.
