i just had my infected sim 'attempt to communicate' with the mother over and over to get her relationship up while the other two stomped around searching for spores. i'm pretty sure she had a neutral friendship meter when she began. it didn't take long at all to get to max relationship
did you maybe have your sim 'taunt' plants around the world? i've got a feeling that lowers your relationship with her. maybe talking to the plants raises it? i know mine did a whole lot of that on her own when she was possessed

I had only one sim taunt the plants many times, but all the other sims who didn't taunt any of them also started out in deep red.
But I'll start playing in another save and solve the story there. I'll make sure none of my sims taunt the plants and see if the relationship starts out at neutral.
