stairs trouble

So, I'm building a community lot, and I wanted to have a U shaped main stair going through several floors. I have done this successfully on another lot, but this time something weird happens...

Like seen on the picture, on one floor the stairs continues 4 steps above the walls. It results in a gap between the walls on this story and the story above, looking totally out of the place. Walls are middle height, same on all floors. I tried choosing the tallest walls, hoping the stairs would adjust, but nope. I also rebuilt the stairs after adjusting wall height, but nope again.

There are 4 stories, 2 above ground and 2 underground. The problem occurs with the stairs right below main floor. If it was the lowest floor I wouldn't mind, but now the problem can be seen from the main entrance.

How can I make this stair shorter? Is it not possible with 4 stairs on top of each other. Thinking of it, I might only have used 3 floors in previous projects.
  • That happened to me when I used the normal room tool for the basement instead of the basement tool. I think I got the basement to sit right under the groundfloor level using the basement tool and building at least one room while on the groundfloor level. That was before the stairs update, though, but the old stairs where also four steps higher and went above the wall.
  • I was in the middle of building a house for Tobias Lancaster the other day, i have everything in place but needed to move the house a little and in doing so the immediate floor above where the top of the stairs connected to that floor went transparent like there was no floor there at all, yet when i went to remove the floor or redecorate the floor the transparent area remained but registered as being there.
  • I just tried placing a normal stair on the same floor, and same thing happened - it stands up 4 steps above walls. In put it far away from the U stair. Is it the wall height that is the problem? Wondering if this is related to the glitch where columns had the wrong height until they were recolored (that glitch was fixed though, I think)

Aha! I might have forgotten to use that basement tool!!! So, I deleted those 2 basement stories, but with same result.

Would I need to also draw the inner basement walls with the basement tool? Because I did not figure out how to, so I used it only for the first 4 walls to define that floor. Hoping all would adjust as the basement tool already had been used. But nope.
  • I think I drew some inner walls later with the normal wall tool and the height didn't change, but I had to delete the whole basement and start with the basement tool. It's been a while since I ran into that problem, so I'm not sure.
  • Thanks again for your quick reply. I think I deleted all of the basement - both floors, burt maybe I should have deleted in in a different way than I did. I just clicked each room and deleted them until there were no more walls on that basement floor. No idea if the game actually understood that I had deleted the basement... might have to give it another go.
