Starving Animals

Have you tried calling the animals out of the stall? Sometimes they don't want to come out for long periods of time, and then their needs degrade.

Hm, I never had a problem with starving animals. That is, if they are starving I just feed them and they will at least be fine for another day. I interact with each animal only once a day. Never upgraded the shed, though.

I have often found chickens in the starvation mode. It's disturbing, since I have Sims that regularly see to their needs. Early every day, Polly takes care of the chickens, then the cow. While her sister, Catherine (called Kitty) takes care of the Llama. Then they switch the very next day. I do this every day. While their parents and three older brothers (before they head off to school) take care of the crops. It's a rough life. Yet, despite my best efforts the chickens have been found starving. What is up with that? I have them called out, and in inclement weather I have them called in, too. Eventually, I do hope to find my rhythm with this more challenging pack. I do love a good challenge, although I might gripe about it. LOL

Is there a stage between “full” and “starving”? It’s just a little shocking to see it get that low when they were full just a minute ago. Why do we have “slightly dirty” for the coop and barn, but no in between like “slightly hungry” or “hungry” (or am I just missing it?)

That's a good point! I recall one I was milking a com and it was clean, but it kicked the bucket and then I found it was dirty. A middle stage would be nice.

That's a good point! I recall one I was milking a com and it was clean, but it kicked the bucket and then I found it was dirty. A middle stage would be nice.

I hope you mean 'kicked the bucket' literally (as in, the milking bucket)!

It seems to happen when the animals are cooped up inside by weather - if there is a long thunderstorm or blizzard, they won't leave the shed, and in the morning, they are always starving. I've also noticed that some sheds never run out of food. I have four in the game I've been playing this week, and one has never needed a food refill.

Generally, if they are starving, my Sim feeds them first; otherwise, she cleans them and gives them a treat before carrying on with the milking or wool collection.

@invisblegirl makes for a good argument to switch off the rain and blizzards, no?

I did turn off thunderstorms and thundersnow in my current game - I was afraid my animals would suffer if my Sim were stuck in the house. The cows and llamas seem to object to snow, as well, however.

Even if the large animals in the sheds are inside for a longer period of time, the feed bin should keep them from starving. My llamas come out after rain, starving but the feed bin is still full...?
