There are also cache files that can be deleted, I delete the "localthumbcache" each time, and that helps. But I would recommend you get advice from the experts before deleting anything.
I just added a third save for a new legacy, that with my other two should give me enough variety, but I always seem to find a reason for adding more lol. At least in 4 it's easier to keep the number of saves down, since you can play all the neighborhoods in one game.
