If you let your teen drink beer, take one quick trip to Batuu and have her learn the Black Spire Brew. It restores energy (but costs money to make, so not ideal for a struggling sim).
If you have IL, quit the part time job and do odd jobs instead. That way you keep the feeling of a struggling sim while making decent money. Choose those odd jobs that are not Sulani related, like pruning the bonsai, carrying crates, hiking buddy and installing the new TV.
