Stupid questions: Whims and Ideal Moods?

I must have missed the memo, but exactly WHY did the Sims team turn off whims and removed Ideal Moods?
I am just curious why, since well... I am one of those who thinks Sims 4 has never had any challenge whatsoever (remember, Discover University is their most challenging gameplay to date in Sims 4 and that's like... Don't be a total tool and your Sim will have straight A+, guaranteed). And then they made it easier?

I mean the challenge level in Sims 4 is so low that having unlimited money would just barely change the gameplay from that it is now. There is no way your Sim won't be super rich by mid-elderly age unless you deliberately screw him or her over, repeatedly.

  • Technically, the are a few ideal moods still. Ideal mood for any work is Energized (Less energy loss), best mood to put victim in during vampire attack is Tense.
Certain skills benefit from specific moods.

But I agree with you. This is too easy. This is why I use mods for how moodlets work.
    No more perma-happy, for example.

You pretty much explained why I don’t play in few words.

The developer’s approach to disable whims, rather than improve upon it, is very symbolic of just how uninspired and dumbed down the gameplay is with TS4. I can’t be in live mode longer than 2 minutes because it feels too easy, and I feel like it’s pointless when TS2 and TS3 exist to give me some actual gameplay with depth.

I still like the game, but they apparently were surprised people wanted more challenges?

I mean Sims 1 was brutal compared to all the others, going as far as you had to furnish your kitchen in exact the right order to have time to eat in the morning (From Bedroom -> front door: Fridge, prep space, oven, table. Too long walk space between them made you late for work). If you were lucky and had done that right you got the time to also go to the toilet / shower before work. Your Sims lived in perma-depression until you got them rich enough.
I don't want to go there, but at least give me a Sims 3 level of challenge?

    Ideal moods? No.

Kind of off topic, but what does pinning the whim do?

It saves it so it doesn't vanish after the sim went to sleep or traveled to another lot

Whims aren't turned off unless you turn them off yourself.

I could be mistaken, but I believe they were actually turned off by default in the patch that made them optional. I seem to remember having to go turn them back on manually in my game.

That's what I remember as well. I turned them on, but might as well have left them off, seeing how broken they are.

As for ideal moods, I haven't played much the past few months, but at least Actor still has it...? Can of course check other sims that work, and also kids/teens in school.

Yep. They are turned off by default and have to be turned back on if you want to use them
