Subdividing a large lot?

I just an old thread where somebody asked about owning multiple lots and it got me thinking. Has anybody tried subdividing a 64x64 lot into two 32x64 lots or four 32x32 lots, and just building two or four houses on it? That way, you can split up child families and maintain simultaneous playability among them without switching households. All you’d have to do is have each sim claim a bed in the correct house. The game would consider them one house, but that’s ok. You can still lock doors for certain sims, so it’d still work.

Opinions? Pitfalls? (I have not tried this yet, so I’m asking.)

  • I've only tried this once when doing The Sims 4 Three Little Sims Challenge. It's a fun challenge, but the creator abandoned it in Feburary 2017. It hasn't been updated since October 2014, but @EuphorialQueen made the last post on the thread in December 2017 saying he/she was looking into doing updates for it on their forum.

There's another one called the Tiny Living Challenge which uses the concept of ending with at least three generations of Sims living in 5x5 houses on the same lot. But again, it doesn't appear to have been updated since 2015 and the last thread post was in April 2018 with unanswered questions.

I've tried this one too, it's equally fun. Both of these could be played as is or play using your own discretionary updates for any new packs added. There is one problem though playing with more than one family/house on a lot, at least currently in my game. Locking doors doesn't seem to be working right now. I've locked doors in my most recent game save, and locked out Sims just stroll in those rooms anyway. It's a known glitch/bug though from my understanding, so hopefully it will be fixed in a near future patch.

I would love it if we could play more than one family per lot with separate funds/bills per household. The biggest lots just go to waste in my game because I don't use them. For now the reason is because of my underpowered laptop, it can't handle large builds with too many Sims. But for in the future when I get a new computer, it would be wonderful to have this option, and, of course, for the use of everyone else who could play that way now. :)

    Happy Simming! <3

@Mariefoxprice83 it’s uploaded to the gallery.

Thank you. I've got it now. It looks great.
  • I already thought about subdividing lots but I left the other houses empty. Maybe I'll fill them too and give it a try.

@Mariefoxprice83 yeah, it’s under “tiny house village” username solenegirl.

Thanks, I will look it up.

    I can't find it :(

Things in the gallery that were made before ain't appearing and things that have been uploaded after the gallery update are on instead

I ran into the same problem when I looked for an older lot. The solution for me was to change the filter from 'popular now' to 'newest'. A bit ironic to use the option 'newest' to find old uploads but the old ones are still there. They will show up if you select 'newest' and scroll down enough.

  • In fact, I have a new lot called “The Suburbs” that I will be posting today after I finish play-testing it. It is made up of four-2 bedroom houses, each aimed at different activities and skills. I also have a few other lots in my Gallery aimed at having multiple small families such as small villages, hotels, motel, apartments, dorms and retirement communities. My vision for TS5 is a huge open world (like one huge lot) where you can build whatever, wherever you want!

I have several lots and households with unrelated "families" that share one lot but live in separate apartments or houses. The big issue is that everything is shared, money, cooked food, one mailbox, etc. As for general day to day living, I lock doors for everyone but members of a certain unit. I do, however, have a communal spot where they all can gather like a game room or gym or outside kitchen so all can meet to hangout.

I know right? That's the point of the "Zone" idea I listed a few posts back. The premise is that, like zoning in SimCity, it subdivides a lot so that you can have separate billing, front doors and families on one "lot". I doubt they'll do it, but hey.

  • I haven't done this exactly but I did set up a retirement village in one save where each elder had a little separate apartment. They shared a large communal kitchen, dining, and entertainment area though.

I see no reason why having completely separate homes wouldn't work. I think I will try that soon. Cool idea!

Not a bad idea. Specially for Legacy stories. I haven't taken a 64x lot but I have built a sort of duplex on a lot for one of my sim stories.
