If you have Get To Work you can set a lot up as a Business lot and have your sims buy it as a second "home" you can put anything on a business lot that you can put on a residential lot so they can basically live there they'll just have to pay the bills of their original lot (there is no cost on the business lot after you buy it). The only thing is that Sims will return to the lot when they come home from school/work so they'll have to be brought to the secondary business lot.
If you have seasons you can set days as like vacation days with no work or school it helps to prevent them from randomly leaving the lot.
