Where can I get taro root from?

There are two wild taro plants on Mua Pel'am. I'm not sure about elsewhere in Sulani.
  • It can also be bought from the beach supplies vending machine in Ohan'ali.

That's how I got mine. I had no idea it was a different thing from potatoes. Must be in the same category. I do notice that that plant itself looks different. Strange, indeed.

Yeah, the first time I got it from a packet of seeds I thought it was a potato at first glance.

@GalacticGal (and everyone else reading this, of course)

taro is a root vegetable, so yes, vaguely similar to potatoes (though typically much larger, absolutely not related, and tastes sweeter) though it often gets compared more to yams. it's a staple food pretty much everywhere but europe and the americas, but as the in-game description says, it needs to be prepared before it's edible
taro and other plants related to it (that often get lumped under 'taro', as well) is actually...well, not poisonous, per se, but toxic (basically, microscopic needles of a crystallized salt) until it's prepared in specific ways

further reading here, though i doubt the link will get much use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taro (it does include a few interesting tidbits of hawaiian culture, among other things)

My poor Simmies have eaten so many of these raw.

@SimQueenie9 huh, i didn't think we were able to have our sims eat raw taro in the game, but sure enough, they can, and with no ill effect. the description says you don't want to do that, though (but never says why)
