You posted mostly pictures about Greece, that's way too specific (and cliché). The vast majority of Mediterranean cities and areas don't look like that, not even close. Ever been to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, etc.?

Tartosa actually looks like an average Mediterranean town, of course it's bland if you think that everything looks like Disneyland.
