Remember when you go on vacation in the sims you can't leave the area of the vacation world .. when you do your vacation is over. This means no work or school. Even though you get drop downs from festivals if you own City Living you can't go or your vacation is over. Don't overpay unless you just have sim money to burn. You can chose how many days though but the pop ups sometimes bugs me if you go day to day so I usually chose about 4 days at a time. It is good to redo some lots. I usually convert lots so that I can travel to other venues while still on vacation.. especially a restaurant or spa or mixed venue on a community lot.
I still really enjoy OR. I like to make my own stories so I like the feel being in the woods, the collecting and fishing also. I don't do herbalism as much since getting ROM though since this was the place before for my witch wannabes and also I've done that to death. I can tell you were every plant and insect spawner is in the whole place. Also you have to time when you go if you have Seasons because some plants are only available in Spring/Fall and some in Summer/Fall. My sweet spot to go there is somewhere between the last week of Spring and first week of Summer. OR also has coolers and tents ... although I think there are tents in Journey to Batuu also? And it has a reward trait which is my first buy trait most of the time now Incredibly Friendly. That trait really boosts the initial friendship with sims. Also cloud gazing and star gazing. It's lovely in winter though so setting up a Christmas themed cabin is great too. Not too fond of the bear sim...
When you go there there's a rangers station to buy extra stuff including growplant. They even sell pet bowls if you forgot or didn't prebuild your rentals and toddler beds. I suggest you prebuild or revamp rentals though before leaving to either OR or JA.
I love the cultural stuff in JA the music and new dance and it's of course it's beautiful. I'm not much of a dungeon diver/fight off creepy crawlers gal but if I'm prepared I feel more confident sending my sims into that, so I usually just send my sims there to be there on vacation same as in OR. I still have to explore more of JA. It's weird how certain packs have things you can't seem to do without later when not on vacation. For JA of all things it's the refrigerator.. very retro.
