Temporary fix for leaf piles

Google this site: deichschafblog This modder has two mods for the leaf piles. One is so they do not rot and one allows the player to click on and remove the piles you don't want. Both have been tested in my game for several hours and so far they have worked flawlessly. On the first day of winter, every leaf pile in my worlds disappeared completely and did not return. The site is in German but the mod descriptions have been translated into English. Credit for finding this goes to Evie0602 who replied to my request for assistance in a discussion I started last week. :)

I realize many Simmers don't like to use mods in their games and I understand their concerns. These mods are a good temporary fix for the leaf piles until the devs can find a solution and we get a new patch. I have been keeping up with the gurus' tweets and they are working on this issue. But they don't know when we will get a fix for this problem. As I stated, I have had these in my game for a couple of days and I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary going on. I have several other mods I use and there have been no conflicts between the leaf pile mods and the mods I have always used. When the devs do release a bug fix for the leaf piles we can simply delete these mods. But I thought I would just put this out there and let everyone decide if they'd like to try them.
  • I just got back from holiday and installed the latest patch Friday. During Spring, my Sim burned the leaf pile in the vacant area near the house and all the leaves near her fishing hole, and not only did they not come back until Autumn (when you would expect them to return), but I've seen NPCs collecting the ash piles in garbage bags.

I don't have any mods or cc, so I think the perpetually regenerating leaf pile bug might be fixed? (Crossing fingers - it's almost winter, and I'm waiting to burn the leaf piles again in the hopes that they'll be gone until next Autumn.)

Unfortunately I'm having the opposite result. My leaf piles are regenerating in the exact same spot, regardless of the current season. :(

I had one that I had to burn several times, but I finally got rid of it. And they did stay gone until Autumn, but they reappeared in the same places. I burned them all in Winter, and come Spring, I had nothing but flowers on the ground, no more leaves hanging about.
  • Someone suggested in another thread that leaf piles spawn on top of each other, meaning if you burn one, there are more objects to be burnt. If the pile spawned 5 times in the past, you must burn it 5 times to see it gone. This can explain why some piles are harder to get rid of.

No idea whether this is accurate, though.

OMG ty. I will have to check this out.

To others with the respawning leaf piles...I literally wait until winter before I burn them or they will keep coming back.

This sounds likely - the leaf pile I had to burn multiple times was one that I'd previously overlooked. They do respawn on a daily basis in the autumn, but if you get rid of them in winter, they really will stay gone until the next autumn. Nonetheless, I agree that there's no reason for them to respawn in the first place. It would be fine if they didn't stink and our playable Sims didn't have to get rid of them come winter.

It's too bad they don't fix the broken woohoo interaction with them.
  • Yes, we can burn the piles every day but they respawn the next morning and the whole burning and hauling the ash away process starts over. Taking a playable Sim and making that Sim the designated leaf pile burner is a waste of gaming time. I have better things for my Sims to do. I have found a couple of workarounds for this problem but the repetition of the actions and the amount of time it takes away from actual gameplay is a pain in the neck. The first time I burned all the leaf piles in my worlds it took over an hour of my gaming time before they were gone. Some piles had to be burned several times, of course, but that was the first time they had been burned. Some leaf piles did not spawn during the winter but some refused to budge no matter how many times I burned them. Each day I opened the game the first thing I had to do was take a playable Sim away from whatever tasks that Sim needed to do and have him or her travel and burn the newly spawned piles. That is not a gameplay feature. It's a bug that clearly has to be fixed.

I am not thrilled about using a mod to deal with this. I have other mods I prefer to have in my game. But I am trying to cut back on how many mods I use. If I install a new mod it has to be one that enhances my game or takes care of a bug. Lately, many of my game enhancing mods are sitting in a save file and are not in my game because the devs haven't been able to fix the bugs that affect my game the most. I am not angry about it, just feeling disappointed because this latest patch broke a lot of things that had been fixed months ago. Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess. :)
