The autonomous snow shoveling is quite literally driving me insane

Yeah, if my sim could clear the whole driveway and sidewalk in front of his house, that would actually be awesome. Especially if shoveling made snow banks along the edges of the driveway and sidewalk. I'd do that all the time. Sadly, the snow in TS4 is just an overlay and I don't think it would be possible.

I am currently playing the drifter challenge. Anyone not familiar with the drifter challenge should know that in most of the house challenges, you can ONLY control your main sim. Spouses and children are uncontrollable. Whatever happens, happens. You can influence or whatnot, but you can't click on them and click on anything else.

Well, I said that to say this... in House 004, it was winter and my sims spouse kept running out of the house, in his boxers, to shovel snow. All day and night. Why he would choose his boxers is beyond me, but he would roll into his boxers and take off across lots to shovel snow. He turned blue and I got the notice that he was freezing to death so many times. :neutral:

If my sim was home, I'd rush her to wear he was and ask him to see his everyday, add him to a group and "go here together" back home. Only for him to do it again after getting home. When she was at work, I just had to pray he didn't freeze the countless time I got the popup. :frowning:

I finally got so tired of it, I waited until he was inside and I locked him in the house. :astonished:

@ChelleJo That is a horrible scenario! And it absolutely should not happen.

WHY it happens, in my opinion, is the sims obsessions this time around. Yes, we had obsessive sims in TS2 Freetime too. All they could think about was their "hobbies" and little else. I got so tired of canceling/deleting their wants for hobby-stuff. But now? THEY will cancel MY orders, to do things THEY want. And for what? Running out in a thunderstorm to play in the rain or a mud puddle? Shovel snow in the freezing cold, in your underwear? Dancing WITH someone to a stereo, even though NOBODY else is dancing, or even LISTENING to the music? Watching kids network WITH someone on TV, even though there are no kids watching, and you yourself is NOT childish?

You rule? I really don't think so.

It's so annoying! and it's been over two years since this was posted... is it too much to ask to get a two-year-old bug fixed? I was telling my child sim to play on the monkey bars so she could finish the Rambunctious Scamp aspiration, and she kept stopping in the middle of it to go shovel snow? Multiple times? Several lots over? Why would children even be able to do that, with all the actions they CAN'T do because of their age? GAH!

Not to mention the fact that leaf piles that get generated as "decore" don't get auto cleared once the season ends is also an issue, especially since they become "stinky" if left unattended or without a mod to make them less smelly. Thankfully if your sim is a spell caster they can use scrubro to clear them (it's quicker than burning them), but you might have to do it multiple times because leaf piles just continuously spawn on top of each other.

What is even the point of shoveling? As far as I can tell it is completely unnecessary. Why are our sims running out to shovel the lawn, especially since they don’t have to? Nobody shovels unless the HAVE to, you know, to clear a walking path or to park a CAR.

Exactly, I think "shovelling" is a holdover request from TS3. IIRC, you couldn't shovel snow in TS3 (or TS2 IIRC) and it's something people were complaining about at the time. So they decided to add it into TS4, but gave it a too high of a value in the "autonomous" actions.
That's the only explanation I have anyway. :-/

I turned off all the autonomous snow activities with MCCC auto tuner autonomy scan. It's made my game experience a whole lot better.
