I hate the fear of dead end job thing. I wouldn't mind it if it was strictly triggered by going a long time without a promotion. In fact, that would give the sims more depth. I also like your suggestion of having it tied to a mismatch between a person's job and their aspirations or personality. As it is, though, a sim can get the fear of a dead end job immediately after getting promoted, even if they're a sporty sim in the athlete career. It's like they decided to give all of the working sims moderate cases of long covid (if you know, you know).
