Also if you find out a townie is an alien, don't get too close to them. My abductions started after my sim moved in an alien townie lover. Though so far that alien is the only sim who's been abducted. Another sim started to leave the house to see the lights, but was distracted by the need to open his umbrella so he was fine.
Edited to add: This is my fourth save and the first time I've had alien abductions. I've had Get to Work in all of them. But I've never interacted with an alien townie after finding out they were an alien before.
