I agree with the OP - the CAS options for guys is very limited. I've noticed that same trend in other games as well. Men typically get the short end of the stick with it comes to variety and fashion choices.
That's the reason why I use a generous amount of CC in my Sims game - plus it also helps me to achieve the desired look that I want when creating a new male (or female) sim - as demonstrated below with some sims I've created using CC. It may not be for everyone, but so far it works well for me.
