The solution to your problem is simple: Turn off Gender tags. Lots of the female clothing looks fine on men without having to look like a hipster.
I know there's not as many types of male clothing and I'm always keen to see more and I'd definitely like to see some clothes from some earlier decades like when Sims 3 gave us 70, 80s, 90s, but if your male sims all look the same then that's your choice and yours alone.
