The solution to your problem is simple: Turn off Gender tags. Lots of the female clothing looks fine on men without having to look like a hipster.
I know there's not as many types of male clothing and I'm always keen to see more and I'd definitely like to see some clothes from some earlier decades like when Sims 3 gave us 70, 80s, 90s, but if your male sims all look the same then that's your choice and yours alone.
While that may be a simple solution for you, not every player wants to dress their male sims in clothing designed for females. Frankly, there aren’t nearly as many androgynous clothing options as the people suggesting that solution believe there are. Most opposite gender clothing looks terrible on the opposite gender body frame.
I don’t cross dress my Sims. That is a personal choice, and I don’t think cross dressing Sims is a solution at all for the underlying issue of male sims not having a wide variety of clothing options. As a male, I can tell you there aren’t as many clothing options as there are for females but there are certainly more than what we currently have for the game.
