The solution to your problem is simple: Turn off Gender tags. Lots of the female clothing looks fine on men without having to look like a hipster.
I know there's not as many types of male clothing and I'm always keen to see more and I'd definitely like to see some clothes from some earlier decades like when Sims 3 gave us 70, 80s, 90s, but if your male sims all look the same then that's your choice and yours alone.
The problem for me is...I do turn off the gender tags. However, not a lot of the female tops look right on a male sim due to the shading at the chest and the way some shirts still have a bit of "bump action" up there. I'm very picky about how my sims look, and ill-fitting clothing can really mess up what I'm going for. The hair styles work well...but, even then, I still find myself looking for CC hair for my guys when I need something masculine but much less...Ken Doll.
That and, again, not a lot of really edgy, quirky, or dynamic styles in the game for the guys. It's a problem with hair, it's a problem with clothes...most of it looks like what middle-aged male executives who never spend more than 2 minutes at a time listening to anyone female think that 4-11-year-old girls think looks good on guys...Ken Doll Fashion. Even when I was a 4-11-year-old girl, i was never fond of Ken's fashion options (the reason his popularity never matched Barbie's is because of that un-moving plastic hair and his lame wardrobe...). Heck, you'd kind of expect that a game aimed at a more teenaged crowd would have more interesting styles for male sims than "Well, I saw this on the mannequin at the J.C. Penny when my wife dragged me there this weekend to shop for bras. This aughtta do it!"
