Oh this annoys me too. I always send them straight to where they should be.
If they should be in bed, they're usually out back at the BBQ...
It's the same with when you call someone, unless it is night everyone is always available :( I really wish the game recognized when non active sims were at work and made them unavailable. It is really one of the biggest immersion breaks for me :/
