The problem with 'Laundry Lists' bug reports.

So if you haven't seen the new "Top community concerns" bug report that was released yesterday here is a summery:

  • Social Panel always saves organisation tab
  • Extreme Sports: High intensity slope not registering
  • Gallery showing wrong packs used
  • When Using ‘Get Leftovers’ Vegetarian Sims Get Meat Items
  • Sims don’t drink fish/frog pack plasma autonomously
  • Unable to complete ‘grand meal’ event after eating fish dinner
  • Mental Magister trait has no icon/should be hidden
  • Maker Mentor moodlet icon is missing
  • Traits not in Club menu
  • Show in the Rain No Longer Works
  • No dust in my haunted houses

The fact that they have been working for the past month to fix and categories what effectively amounts to as 3 Missing Icons, 2 Broken interactions with Vampires and a Gallery display bug is shocking. And remember. Maxis chooses its top priorities. Maxis chose 2 missing icons as one of the "Top community concerns" and it still takes them over a month to fix it really should tell you the state of Maxis as a whole. TS4 is not getting any better and the things that are legitimately broken (Pets, The entire Dine out pack, infinitely looping social interactions when Free will is disabled ect) are being ignored to fix icons.

The problem with Laundry lists is not only did no one ask Maxis to tell us which bugs they have acknowledged as being issues. Its the fact that the bugs they do acknowledge are the ones that take the smallest amount of time to fix yet we still have to wait over a month just to get Icons to display correctly and none of the actually real problems ever get solved. PSA to the Sims Team. The "Most up voted" or "Most reported" bugs aren't always the ones of biggest concern nor should they always be a priority.

Like if 2 broken Icons are more of a priority to fix than major issues because the forums said they were, really you need to take a hard, hard look at your team and figure out w. t. f you are doing and why even when you do choose to fix the simplest things (You just have to fix a broken texture link in code to fix an icon. Should take 5 minutes at most), it takes you over a month.

Most people have been pulled away to work on a "New exciting project" (Sims 5). Even Lyndsay Pearson has been reassigned to it.

I hadn't heard Lyndsay had been reassigned. Is there a new Executive Producer/General Mgr for Sims 4? I couldn't find any info.

Lyndsay is, By her own words "Hello! I'm the Executive Producer / GM of The Sims". The Sims. Not the Sims 4. She has been reassigned from The Sims 4 to work on a new Sims project.

Is that a change she made to her title recently, like on her Twitter? Or has it always been that way? I'm honestly curious.

Shes been here since 2003 and worked on The Sims 2 (I still have the TS2 demo disc where she tells you about how excited she is for joining Maxis) Since then she was promoted to lead producer (2009) and senior producer (2013) and then Executive Producer.

The way it works is you are promoted to hold a position in the company for that franchise, not for a single game. The only time its ever for a single game is if you are contracted as a 3rd party to help produce or develop/concept for that game. But since Lyndsay works at Maxis she is GM for the entire Sims series not just Sims 4.

Yeah it includes the currently developed Sims Freeplay and Sims Mobile too. She was the first one that wanted to compromise the old and new of the Sims together which I think is brilliant for bringing the Sims community together. She worked on some of my favorite features in the Sims 2.
  • I do seriously wonder how some of the bugs were not even picked up before they were released into the game

One of my biggest peeves is sims cycling indoors , How they never noticed that in testing
    The endless cooking meals
Teens unable to go on dates as they always get the off the grid message
The constant standing and staring into space
if you cancel an interaction how often the icon is then stuck there until you exit the game
Staff in restaurants and bars and Dj's dropping out of their work simply because some famous townie has wandered onto the lot .

I think the laundry list is them looking at the easiest things they can possibly fix so that can try and con everyone into thinking they actually care about the buggy broken state of their game without having to fix any of the more seriously broken mess that is TS 4
  • Actually would be interested to hear from @SimQARobo @SimGuruNick @SimGuruArvin about how their bug matrix works for bug reporting.
  • The laundry list is NOT a list they intend to fix by the next patch , It's a list of items they are currently looking at to fix ,

Like the constant food making , they had that on the first list but said it could take a long time to fix
