They don't do archery at my kids' school per se, but they have club days, where they bring in extra-curricular activities and let kids try them out, see what they like and then help kids get into those activities. Archery is a regular one at the school.
Well, on these Club Days, I do hope they give these kids a bit of instruction. You can't just pick up a bow and pull the string back . . . there's a tad more to it than that. Especially if you wish to do so safely. Just sayin' You have to wear an arm guard, and learn to roll your elbow inward and then turn your wrist so the string doesn't thwack it when you release it. Ooh you should see the nasty large bruise you can get if you fail to do it right. 😬

Yes, when I was in high school we had an elective archery class, one of my friends attended, and I believe did get the forearm bruise/abrasion.
