Actually, you get a need decay penalty for using taxis or carpool for Sims 3. Using a car negates that penalty, that's why cars were needed in that game. Bicycle and Horse were nice alternatives to cars.
But if Sims 4 is going to have cars, then there also needs to be bicycles, motorcycles, and horses. And why not go all out and make helicopters and planes?
