I haven't played the game yet, since it's not for Mac yet but I do watch quite a few let's plays and let's builds and all that stuff and I'm actually glad it's not out on Mac yet, saved me a lot of money. I used to be sooo excited about this game for over a year and have been waiting impatiently for it but I'm quite disappointed.
Things I like:
-Multitasking (though it seems to be a bit glitchy at times)
-The graphics look amazing! I love the cartoony style.
-Create a sim is awesome.
-Sims walking randomly in front of your house, lots of sims in community lots,...
-The gameplay looks really smooth.
-The tattoos look great.
-The food on a plate actually looks like food and the sims chew! Nice detail.
-No toddlers. Never cared for this stage of life. So tedious to teach them everything. Though they did look cute and I liked the interactions but I understand that adding this to a "generations"-type expansion pack would attract more people (Same goes for the pool tool)
-Build mode in general is pretty amazing for all the things other people already stated: not having to switch between build and buy,... I also like the tall kitchen cabinets and the rounded corners for the counters.
-The pregnancy. I like that you can still go to work and that it's not a fixed amount of date you're pregnant.
Things I don't like:
-You can't customise the hair. I understand why you didn't put in the colour wheel or the create a style (And to be fair, I really don't miss it. I didn't even know about it in the Sims3 until a few months ago) but I miss adding the highlights and all that stuff.
-The tiny neighbourhoods, like many, many other people here told you.
-The walk styles. I like the idea but the walk styles just look horrible.
-Only 3 traits and then there are so little traits to choose from. (Though I like most of the traits) The aspirations seem to be limited, too.
-Where are the more "normal" jobs? Why did you leave those out?
-Babies are more like objects.
-No auto-roof.
-You can't check your sims needs while they are at work.
-The sims just vanish when they go to work. At least in the Sims 2, they step into a taxi.
-There are no options to choose from when your sim is at work. Like the "slack off", "Meet coworkers" and stuff.
-No repairman, no firefighter
-No story progression
I have the overall impression that you have left out a a lot of things in the base game to put them in expansion packs so that you can have more money for those.
Is this because you don't have any trust in your fans to buy these expansion packs if we had toddlers, pools, ... in the base game or because there isn't enough inspiration and ideas for the expansion packs? (If that's the case, you have a very, very large fan base who would love to help you with that) I'm not being offensive, or at least I'm not trying to be. This is just the feeling that I have and I don't know a way to put it more friendly.
Though as a longtime Sims-fan and player, I know you'll make something great and wonderful out of this. I realise this is only the base game without patches, updates,... So I'm convinced the Sims 4 will be absolutely awesome. But until then, I'm just going to watch let's plays and wait until the Mac version.
