As I suspected, there's not a lot of content in the initial release. The Sims 3 was a wonderfully mature, solid piece of software that had a great deal of content by the end of its lifespan. The Sims 4 starts again, but there is obviously much less to do.
Likes: Socialising is better than Sims3. More believable, with fewer quirks. The AI is a little better, and the gaming experience is more rounded in the long-run. EA has taken the best gameplay from the addons from Sims 3 and removed the worst.
Dislikes: very, very empty. Very few lots to visit, few clothing options, few character options. No rain or snow etc. which adds massively to the atmosphere of the Sims3. I've had at least one crash that's wiped out my savegame. Very expensive for something without much content.
The Sims 3 is currently better value - especially if you can pick it up in a sale which seems increasingly likely now Sims 4 is out. Sims 3 has far more content and is in many ways a more satisfying experience, and far better value for money.
