I've been a simmer for about 10 years, but I want to say that I didn't play Sims 3 at all, as I didn't like the open world. So some of my likes and dislikes may have been in Sims 3 as well, so you'll have to excuse that  I play sims mostly because of the building, customizing and legacies  :)
Things I liked:
- Emotions (like people have said previously, I didn't think I'd like it, but it's really awesome)
- Multitasking (talking in groups, reading while talking etc)
- Building (the new building options are absolutely awesome!)
- Making sims (huge improvement when it comes to body and face)
- Changing sims looks (I both love and hate that you can change clothes without buying them)
- When building you can change to morning as well as just day/night
- Limited open world (I love how the sims mostly stay at home to be honest)
- Teens can talk about WooHoo!! haha
- You can change the name of the adopted kids
- You have to do a lot more to gain a good grade in school or get a promotion
Things I didn't like:
- Lack of pools, toddlers and being picked up by bus, car etc for work/school
- You can make a cake and age sims instantly (seems so unrealistic to me, and I've already aged sims too fast by mistake -.-)
- You don't buy clothes (why would you need wardrobes when you can just change the clothes in the mirror??)
- You can just replace broken items (a love and hate thing)
- Having to build rooms before the foundation (to me that makes no sense, and it's more work)
- Testingcheats true resets after just a few minutes (maybe a bug, maybe not, annoying anyways)
- Not being able to customize, make and delete neighbourhoods/worlds sims 2 style (what happens when my families have filled up the lots?)
Probably a lot more to add on both sides. ;)
Suggestions for future updates or expansion packs:
- Give us toddlers and pools!
- I want to customize my neighborhoods again
