I was having this problem too. Then I discovered the new push and pull system for the cameras. You left click and move your mouse down, (or whatever direction you want the camera to go.) Hope this helps a little.
I agree with a lot of your points, especially this:
"11. certain clothing became unavailable in the create a sim section depending on what the dress up occasion was. For instance the women create a sim, I couldn't give my sim the option to wear a non-heel type of shoe in the special occasion wardrobe. "
Also, I really wish there were night gowns for women and especially for little girls :\
