I will start by saying like pretty much everyone else here I am a huge Sims fan. From SimCity to the Original Sims I have played them all for over 13 years now. I am a bit dissapointed in The Sims 4. Partly, I will say, it's because of my expectations. With TS4 I guess I was expecting a newer, better, upgraded version of TS3(which I LOVE), when what we really got feels like an upgraded version of TS2 (honestly, I still play it; I love the Open for Business expansion). Though I will say that I feel like TS2 and TS3 base games have way more content than TS4.
What I like:
The graphics are beautiful, though I agree with another gamer who said they do look a bit Pixar-ish and less real.
CAS is awesome. I love how much we can manipulate our sims look.
I love multitasking.
My prego sims no longer have to wear ugly outfits, and can continue to work.
We can move things all over the walls be it pictures, or windows. That makes the house more realistically decorated.
Being able to put nic-nacks on shelves. Again makes it more homey and realistic looking.
I like the emotions.
I like that I can move the whole house in build mode. I like being abe to move it around the lot.
What I don't like:
The closed world. SO annoying that I can't even go to my neighbors without a load screen. I absolutely love the open world of TS3.
The worlds and neighborhoods are too small. Not enough empty lots or community lots.
It's been said, but the lack of enough time in the day. I am constantly filling my sims needs, and don't really have time for anthing else but that and work.
So while I like the emotions to a point, they also are a bit annoying. My sims moods change at a whim and I don't always have time to get their wishes met before they change because of a mood change.
The lack of regular jobs. My sim is athletic and wants to work out all the time which I don't mind, but unless I just didn't see it, there wasn't a career that would benifit from this (like the athletic career track in the previous games).
It takes forever to build relationships. I needed to make a friend to level up in a job, but it was taking so long to get the friendship built.
No cars. No toddlers. No pools. Really?!
Infants are part of the decor- stuck in a crib. This is a step back to me.
No color wheel. I loved personalizing everything.
No edit town/create a world.
I love building houses, but I can't stand it in TS4. I don't know if its just me, but because you simplified it in order to get to the game play faster, it actually made it more difficult for me to be creative in building my houses. Now I just get frustrated.
It's boring. There is not enough to do. I know everyone (who likes it) is saying it's because we are comparing it to all the expansions of TS3, but I just got a new laptop and I currently only have the base TS3 loaded and it is way better than TS4. That being said, I will not stop playing TS3 for TS4; something I did when TS2 came after the original, then when TS3 came out after that.
I might give it another shot when a good expansion comes out, but for now I'm still going to be playing TS3. Though, I feel a bit gipped that for the game to be fun I will have to spend even MORE money.
