I actually have mixed feelings about the Horse Ranch world. On one hand, it’s Appaloosa Plains again? & on another hand it’s another Desert world.?
(FYI: there’s already three Deserts worlds. Oasis Springs, DS Valley & Strangerville)
DS valley is not a desert world. It is supposed to be a city. And they should have had some beach lots there. They made DSV way too small for the type of world it was taking after. It didn’t have beach lots, or middle class lots, just the small number of city lots, 3 older neighborhood lots and 3 very large rich lots. It was disappointing that it wasn’t a sizable world with more variety like it should have had. - FreddyFox12342 years agoSeasoned Ace

I personally hope that if we see horses in other worlds, that they have riders, and are not just wandering around alone. I mean it would be nice to have a lot trait for horses or horse riders to hang around the lot, otherwise I don’t want to see strays everywhere. That’s my opinion…
Maybe it’ll be like Cats and Dogs, so with wild horses roaming only in the new world, but you’ll only have them in other worlds if you actually buy/adopt them there. - evilyn_372 years agoSeasoned Ace

My concern is them reusing the same playground equipment in these expansion packs. There's things they could add as playground equipment but they don't. Where's the see saw, slide, pull up bars and rocking horses. I'm tired of the monkey bars and play ships for the children. We have like 23 worlds and the main playground equipment be monkey bars in the public space's. I know they could create more for our sims.
It weird to me that children don’t have a stand alone slide, or a swing/slide combe since we already have the animation. - dreaming222 years agoSeasoned Ace

I had to go to an offsite to see a picture of the expected pack. The horses are too fat. The orange horse (Maxis' idea of brown) with the kid riding it has a horrible mesh. Body mesh looks awful. It looks like the legs were added at the last minute. And... No muscle tone at all. They almost look like a first time modder's try at making a 3D model. Bulky, yes, farm plow horses are bulky but just look at that orange horse mesh....it needs help.
It’s a bay though, not brown. Friend of mine had a bay Arab that was pretty orange. Maybe muscle tone will be a fitness thing for horses? My gelding is positively round (ok so he’s a cob type air fern) compared to say, a racing fit Thoroughbred
I guess my big gripe seems to be that all the horses are running around in sidepulls. Would have to see the trailer to be totally sure (and there’s technically nothing wrong with a sidepull because my mare had one, it’s just a bitless bridle) but is it that hard to model a bit?
Also not too crazy about the desert world. Was hoping for more of a Montana grasslands type (y’know for steppe prairie for some historical saves). Meh. - Wrenry2 years agoRising RookieJust the normal worry about lot space and if any lot(s) will be plunked down in the most WTF space like the lot in the middle of the road in San Sequoia.
- Simmerville2 years agoLegendI'm not totally happy with another desert world, I could probably be more excited over another environment as I guess it would contain more variety.
That said, I guess they choose a desert world for horses as such a world might have less animations with less animated trees etc, while horses will probably take up some extra resources. Plus, it mnight look more natural with more open spaces where horses can roam about, than in a more lush world. So, my thought is that I prefer this kind of world if it can prevent lag. - Karamazov1232 years agoSeasoned Ace
Join a Thriving Community — Living on a ranch has its moments of peace and solitude, but there’s also a lively social scene. Your Sims can go into town to meet friends at the bar, blow off steam at the dance hall, or train at the equestrian park. They can also host events like cookouts and dances on their own property, and hire a ranch hand to help when the work builds up.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're not throwing in town festivals or anything - those sound good on paper, but everything after City Living has been bad. I just don't think the Sims team can do them right. But most of these can be done in the base game or any other pack. Really sick of the game redoing the same things over and over again and pretending it's a feature. - meeshwood2 years agoSeasoned AceI'm still not sure what justifies this as an EP and not a GP. I guess I just need to see more.
- alexspoom132 years agoSeasoned AceAfter watching the trailer I feel really underwhelmed, and I went in with low expectations.
Sure the horses themselves look well done, but... They were well done in TS3 Pets, which came with dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles, a huge world and more.
I see an empty-looking world full of shells which looks pretty but otherwise lacks gameplay. Where have we seen that before...
I was at least hoping for some small surprises such as rocking horses for kids or the mechanical bull, but... Alas.
Obviously this is only a first impression and more details will be revealed as well get closer to release, but at the moment it looks... Shallow. - Kinda figured it would be, but this is definitely gonna be a "wait till it's on sale" pack. Not too pumped about an entire expansion centered around the worst part of TS3's pets pack.
I was just....so incredibly unimpressed with Cottage Living Part 2-I mean...."Horse Ranch". I can't remember the last time I've seen an EXPANSION pack trailer and thought "Wow...I only want one thing."
And I'm not about to drop $40 just for a nectar maker, when we've already had a really good modded one for a few years now. So I'm either gonna pass on this one or wait till the price goes down.
