Nope, I never want to see "Open World" again. It was a mistake the first time and I doubt the devs will ever make that mistake again. Open World games are highly scripted with few or no free roaming characters. That is why they work with only the character you are playing roaming free. In Sims it was constant stuck sims, stuck cars, empty venues, etc. I don't play the sims to wonder around. I play to create stories. And no Sims 4 is not at an end. In case all of you hadn't noticed, this is the age of "service" software. Most companies don't scrap and start over in this time, they add on to what is there. Waiting for Sims 5?... Don't hold your breath. I don't mean to be snippy, but I am tired of those who don't like the current format deciding that because they don't like it that is proof that it is not good. No, it only means that you don't like it.
As for cars, I can take or leave them. I play the Sims as a different country, which happens to be very "green" and cars are a rare thing. The lack of access roads are not an obstacle though. There are places in the US, California for example where in the hills, they have what are called, "walk streets." People park their cars in garages below the hills and use an outdoor tower elevator to go up to the residential area. My uncle lives there, so there are ways to do it.
By that logic, I guess we can remove TV's as well, they cause lag, take time to animate and no one is watching TV these days.
I think that this mindset have appeared a little too often in gaming communities... If we are not showing EA and Maxis what we feel is okay and what is not okay they will reduce the sims even more.
I know that it will probably be difficult to make an open world game and cars for a life simulation game, but so was making an open world for other games as well, and it did not stop developers from investing into technology so it became possible.
Ubisoft did not make their worlds smaller or removed boats from Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Naughty Dog did not make their worlds smaller either they even added a car that you could travel around in Uncharted 4, Rockstar Games did not make their worlds smaller, they made it bigger, more fun and they also improved horses from Red Dead Redemption 2. They did not reduce features in their previous games, they expanded them.
This is game development, not a netflix service. The updates that we have gotten from Maxis, like the inventory update last year shows that they want to improve this game, but they are dragged down by this "games as a service" model.
And this mindset should not be accepted in the sims community.
