A realistic Sims game would flop. They’ll never have super realistic animations for Sims, as it will cost way too much. So realistic graphics with standard Sims animation would be laughed at.
It would be worse than the Mass Effect game that came out where the animations were wonky yet the graphics realistic.
Not to mention, when GTA V came out it was considered a graphical achievement and yet now there are other games that people claim look better than GTA V.
Realistic games will always age badly, and The Sims franchise lives on longevity.
The cartoony aspect works better for them because they can sell it for longer and it still looks fresh.
Games like Fortnite, Overwatch etc. go for that style on purpose because it ages really well.
I doubt EA will go realistic ever again. The Sims 2 had quite realistic furniture, roads, trees, terrain etc. and that game aged really badly in comparison to the console game which went with a more cartoon aesthetic.
I doubt the term ‘realistic’ in the job posting was referring to art style. The mainline Sims titles have all been ‘realistic’ in the sense that they simulate virtual lives in a way that resembles the real world, compared to Sims games like MySims which has a completely different direction.
