The Sims Quietly Killed Multiple Storey Basements?! [Fixed in Patch 9/5/19]

We were probably distracted by glass floor tiles and beach lots. Or maybe this happened prior to Island Living.

We used to be able to build a basement, and a second (maybe even third?) basement under that, and remove those floors and ceilings and be able to see all the way down.

I tried to make a double story basement in my game, and suddenly it is not possible.

For example, if you watch this speedbuild by Devon Bumpkin from 2017, you'll notice he was able to build two levels into the ground. But if you download the same build today it only allows us (or me in my game at least) to see down one story into the ground.

This is upsetting. I know the sims makes a lot of improvements to the game, and often at no cost to us, but I'm really sad that our creativity is stifled by something they've removed from the game this time.

Is it a temporary bug? Does this happen for everyone? Has anyone else noticed? Does anyone care? Is anybody listening to me?

They created this bug about 3 months ago i think? Finally fixing it is good, but my god these guys are poor at testing their game.

I remember after the island living update, the bug was discovered almost immediately proving that EA does not bug test their games properly.

I didn't even bother playing the game since June because I figured they had no intention of fixing it. Glad it will finally be fixed, but what else will break in the many more rushed updates they have planned? They obviously don't care about quality, they just want constant releases and fast easy profits.

They will leave Sims 4 in a totally broken state by the time Sims 5 comes out. It's hard to know when I should stop updating the game because at some point they will break it so bad it will be unplayable.

Imagine five more years of monthly patches.

Is this still bugged? I haven't had much time to play lately.

It will be fixed in tomorrow's patch according to SGNick, I believe.

Seems like a lot have said its fixed. It's probably safe to update now. I rolled back to June pre island living update. I hope nothing else game breaking is broken in the update though.

The game is a disaster, they need to stop releasing expansions and gamepacks and only fix bugs for the next several months. But at the very least hire more people to do bug testing before releases, because its crazy how much they break each time.

Is this because mods are broken? Vanilla game players need to know because it's a waste of time to test our games to see if you are right. :) I don't like to blame Maxis otherwise. Except for stair rails being annoying on wide staircases I'm not having many problems.
  • Started messing around with this because I'm fond of basements. Everything worked nicely at first and I was able to delete floors without the irremovable blank slate appearing, but as time went on and as I added more rooms the bug returned. The irremovable blank floors here can't be interacted with through any means whenever I try anything.

Edit: Kept messing around with this and I can't really discern what causes the bug to come back. I built the same basement but built rooms in a different order and the bug kept popping up at different moments, it's very strange. It seems to come up far more often if you're editing a first basement story after you've built one below though. It doesn't like me altering walls in any way.

Edit 2: Getting a lot of weird stuff. If you look at the first part of this image, I have a room on the first story of the basement and everything is as I wanted it. Let's say I want to replce the style of wall - if I change that wall the game will put in a floor that covers the rest of the basement. Deleting that floor that the game forces will yield the irremovable floor bug.
