theres no pond at this location

trying to use my terrain tool to make a pond but when i try to add water it says theres no pond at this location...

yes but it wouldnt let me add water at 1st but i guess it wasnt deep enough for a pond. i thought i made it fairly deep but apprantly i need to dig trenches in order for the pond tool to work properly :s.
