Today I have dug up how the start of a mid-life crisis works.
It turns out that when your sim is an adult, being in the following emotions will help to trigger it (the ones with + have a higher chance of triggering it):
- Angry + (the chance isn't increased when it's due to Werebies)
- Sad +
- Tense + (the chance isn't increased when it's due to Werebies)
- Uncomfortable
- Embarrassed
In addition, sim not being part of the household and sim already having had a mid-life crisis (aka having this trait: trait_Hidden_MidlifeCrisis_HadACrisis) will also prevent mid-life crisis from starting.
At first, I thought that witnessing death helps mid-life crisis to come about faster. Well, it was just a coincidence as witnessing death gives your sim a strong Sad moodlet, which in turn has a higher chance of starting it. And yup, there is a file called loot_MidlifeCrisis_SimDeath, but it's for removing all the mid-life crisis stuff once the sim having it dies.
Last Mid-Life crisis fact. I'll move on to other topics for now, but I'll get back to mid-life crisis when the new forums open up.
Anyway, there are 4 desires your sim could have once the early part is over:
- Desire for Adventure (slower energy decay)
- Desire for Creativity (higher quality craftables)
- Desire for Relationships (higher relationship gain)
- Desire for Success (higher career performance gain)
While sims have equal chance of getting one of these desires, certain traits can also cause certain desire to appear less:
- Adventure
- Outdoorsy Lifestyle
- Frequent Traveler Lifestyle
- Adrenaline Seeker Lifestyle
- Active
- Adventurous
- Child of the Islands
- Child of the Ocean
- Loves Outdoors
- Creativity
- Creative
- Genius
- Art Lover
- Maker
- Music Lover
- Perfectionist
- Relationships
- People Person Lifestyle
- Single and Loving It Lifestyle
- Romantic
- Dance Machine
- Bro
- Family-Oriented
- Insider
- Outgoing
- Success
- Workaholic Lifestyle
- Self-Assured
- Kleptomaniac
- Materialistic
- Ambitious
- Overachiever (High School Years)
Remember, having a certain trait doesn't prevent certain desire from appearing. It simply is rarer than other desires (or equally common if your sim has traits from all of these categories).
Though it seems like The Sims Wiki has info on all of that for now...

On how good Growing Together is in my opinion, here's another fun fact on one of its features!
Today's topic: Work Rivals.
There's a chance for your sim to get one after a workday. Traits do affect the chance:
Spoiler- These traits increase the chance:
- Hot Headed
- Mean
- Evil
- These traits decrease the chance:
- Cheerful
- Gregarious
- Kindness Ambassador
In addition, there is a rare chance for sim having 2 workplace rivals. There can't be more than 2 though.
In addition, just getting a job or promotion or just recovering from a burn out will prevent your sim from getting a work rival. There's also a cooldown in getting a work rival.
- These traits increase the chance:

I like my sims having the cheerful trait @EgonVM so it is good to know that it will help to decrease the chance of them getting a workplace rival 🙂 Also I don’t have sims with the other traits that increase the chances of it so that is good!
Thanks for letting us know about work rivals.

Today's list: how to get detention in high school!
Your sim has to do the following in the high school or Career Day:
- Being rude to the staff member
- Pranking
- Not being at class
- Not being at any classes during the day and still showing up in school afterwards
- Randomly from chance cards
Getting detention will get your sim closer to being expelled. Your sim can convince the principal to get out of detention, which is more successful if they are friends with them or have Trusting sentiment and less successful when your sim has low relationship with them or have Suspicious sentiment.

If your sim has earned at least one scout badge as a child, then when they are a teen or older they can cook scout cookies 🙂
- simgirl10102 years agoHero
Ooh, I never knew that. My main cook is my sim Julianna. All three of her daughters earned all the scout badges. But they never cook. 😄 Will definitely bake some scout cookies next gameplay session.

The Mark temperaments coming from the Lunar Howl don't have any special traits that raise the chance of it coming up. It also is more likely to come up too. Other temperament chances are unaffected by the Lunar Howl.
So yeah, some sims tend to get a certain temperament more than other sims. I'm guessing if your sim doesn't have any of these traits, every temperament has an equal chance of appearing.

It is great to learn that barstools can be slotted onto the foodstands! @simgirl1010 🙂 It is very helpful! It looks good also.

Today I confirmed the fact I suspected.
In an extreme emotion (Enraged, Hysterical, Mortified), every time sim does that special emotion idle animation, they have a chance to die. So yeah, if you get them to do something that doesn't allow idle animations (no ideas here for now), you can just help your sim to weather this emotion.
In addition, the following things also save your sims:
- Being teen (emotional deaths have been disabled for teens since Parenthood)
- Being pregnant (duh)
- Being a Vampire or Servo
- Being Cringe (prevents Laughter only)
- Having the anger be caused by Emotion Bomb quirk (prevents Anger only)
- Being a Werewolf or having Werebies (prevents Anger only)
In addition, Supreme Authority reward trait from Journey to Batuu only reduces the chance of death by anger.
- Moozilla132 years agoSeasoned Ace@EgonVM Interesting, I had no idea emotional deaths were tied to the idle as a trigger. That makes for a nice little not-cheat cheat to avoid those deaths if needed!

Today, I'll share info about Kodama in Snowy Escape.
These are these things your sim can encounter when hiking:
There are three things that can happen when encountering a Kodama:
- If your sim has a harvestable in their inventory (from Gardening or seed packets etc), they'll always get Spiritual Blessing (+3 Happy moodlet) alongside with a random harvestable in their inventory.
- If your sim does not have a harvestable in their inventory, one of these two things can happen:
- Your sim gets Spiritual Awe, which causes their Energy need to go down slower. This outcome is more likely to happen to sims with Good or Childish traits.
- Your sim gets Spiritual Misfortune, which causes one of the needs (Energy/Vampire Energy, Bladder/Water, Hunger/Thirst, Fun, Hygiene, or Social) to go down faster. This outcome is more likely to happen to sims with Mean or Evil traits.
So yeah, if you want to be safe and avoid a misfortune, always carry a fruit or seed with you (apple for example).
Additional fun fact: The Forest Spirits you can make a wish to or collect are codenamed Onibi.

Decided to look into jungle dangers.
My question was: does spider/bat/bee attacks caused by Creepy Crawlies lot trait poison sims less than in jungle.
Answer: no. The chance is same.
Yet I discovered something:
- Spiders have the highest chance of poisoning your sim.
- Bees can cause poisoning.
- Bats seem to not cause poisoning at all.
So yeah, these three have different chances of poisoning your sim, with spiders being most dangerous and bats only causing discomfort.

Curse of the Night Wraith. Sims 4 Realm of Magic.
The Night Wraith is a cursed ghost who antagonizes Spellcasters in The Sims 4. He only appears when certain conditions are met. Whenever a Spellcaster is stuck with the Curse of the Night Wraith, they will start to feel its effects. Their energy need will plummet, and they will be unable to sleep, making them always exhausted. At night, the Night Wraith becomes visible.
The Night Wraith is a grey ghost with glowing eyes who stalks the afflicted Sim at all times of the day. He cannot be interacted with, and Spellcaster Sims are forced to suffer through his presence until the curse is lifted. There isn't much information on the Night Wraith besides his three traits, Evil, Mean, and Dastardly, from his Public Enemy Aspiration. He is also always sad and has an Atrocious reputation.
Spellcaster Sims can get the Curse of the Night Wraith in several ways: failing at a spell, brewing a lousy potion, or losing a duel. They are more vulnerable to magical failures whenever their Spellcaster charge is too high. Luckily, the curse can be lifted easily. Players have several options to lift a curse in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. One is to brew a potion of Curse Cleansing using any cauldron. Only Spellcasters can brew potions, and the recipe includes the following:
- 1 Apple
- 1 Angelfish
- 1 Citrine
- 1 Mandrake
Another way is to use the Decursify spell. Sims will unlock spells naturally as they increase their Spellcaster level and practice Practical, Mischief, and Untamed magic. They can also ask one of the three Sages to teach them spells. Lastly, Spellcaster Sims can equip the Hexproof perk to avoid all curses indefinitely. If players need to get rid of it quickly and can't access the potion or spell, they can use the cheat traits.remove_trait trait_Curses_NightStalker.
- rosemow2 years agoHero
The Night Wraith sounds quite scary and the effects of the curse aren’t too good! @simgirl1010 It is great that there are ways to get rid of the curse!

Today's info is on vending machines.
Items can get stuck there, but it'll happen less to sims with Techie lifestyle and more to sims with Technophobe lifestyle or Angry or Uncomfortable emotions.
Afterwards, whether shaking the vending machine works or not also depends on the traits.
Sims succeed more if they have Techie lifestyle.
Being pregnant will only prevent your sim from being crushed.
Sims fail more (not getting an item or being crushed) when they have one or more of the following:
- Being Angry or Uncomfortable
- Having Technophobe lifestyle
- Having Clumsy trait (includes the fail result from the Potion of Luck)
- Having low Energy.
- Being a ghost that died by a vending machine (always gets crushed)
By default, sims are more likely to succeed getting the item, followed by not getting the item, with being crushed happening not too often. NPC sims can shake the machines and can get crushed by it, but they can never die by it.
So yeah, the main takeaway is this:
- Use vending machines more if your sim has Techie lifestyle.
- Avoid vending machines if your sim is Angry or Uncomfortable.
And, of course, if your sim has "Close Call" injury moodlet, do not shake the machine (it could kill your sim at that point).

Well, let's take a look at murphy beds too and...
It is really random here.
The chance of it failing to open is reduced by half when it is upgraded with Spring Loaded and completely removed when upgraded with Reinforced Spring Wiring. In addition, pregnant sims will always succeed in opening murphy beds. It turns out that it being broken won't affect how much it fails.
When it fails, there is a chance of death. The chance is higher when the bed is broken. Children and Servos are immune to death.
So yeah, the following tips on murphy beds (Tiny Living):
- Try to upgrade it. 3 levels in Handiness skill for Spring Loaded (reduce the chance), 8 levels for Reinforced Spring Wiring (eliminates the chance).
- If it is not possible, have a child, Servo, or a pregnant sim open it.
- If you see your sim frustrated, quickly cancel the interaction.
- If you don't want to risk or build Handiness skill, avoid buying this bed.
It truly is a random death to be honest...
