Things you thought before playing The Sims?

Is there anything you believed would be a thing in The Sims that turned out to be totally wrong? For an example, I believed that sim’s pyjamas changed with their career.
  • not to be negative but I thought sims would have like... personalities. All my sims always end up acting the same.

More generally, I always thought The Sims were just console games until I stumbled into CAS demo and I thought, wait, I can run this on my computer????

  • I can no longer remember what I expected of the original Sims! Everything was a surprise.

Over time, I learned to expect bugs. Sim-eating bugs. Game-eating bugs. Time-destroying bugs.

I no longer expect my Sim games to...y'know, survive intact. Over all those years, I learned to expect my gameplay to be destroyed by bugs.

So TS4 surprised me, because until the relationship-culling bug wiped out all my sims' relationships (which I cheated back as best I could), I didn't basically lose my game to bugs. And because I'd learned long ago to save often using multiple save files, the hilarious (Seasons) winter sim-die-off that wiped out most of my neighboring sims didn't cause me any trouble. I lost maybe 30-45 real-life minutes watching the bodies pile up before I simply went back to my previous save.

So...the expectation I developed from The Sims, TS2, & TS3, that all my games would eventually be destroyed by bugs, has finally (so far) turned out not to be a thing in TS4. Hurrah!

I'm sorry that hasn't been true for everyone playing TS4, and hope more bug fixes come soon. :)
  • That would be the original Sims 1 for me. Can't say I remember my thoughts as an 11 yr old back then except for "My siblings are finally letting me play!". :D
  • I thought I wasn't neurotic... Then I learned that a misplaced window make my head tilt and my eye twitch.

They pull plenty of different facial expressions in the Sims 4 too.

I thought that hybrids would be like they were in TS2 or something similar. Vampire/alien hybrids are not a thing in TS4...which is surprising. But if your vampire Sim gets abducted by aliens and has a baby that has both alien and vampire powers, it definitely happens...but it's not supposed to happen....so these special hybrids are like game-breaking. My vampire got abducted by aliens, had a baby....and she isn't labeled in CAS as alien or vampire, but she has all the vampire powers and alien powers. If I upload her to Gallery and someone tries to download her, she's broken. The strangest thing to me that TS2 could handle hybrids....14 years ago, but TS4....can't handle them.

When this game was announced, I thought it was going to be like Sims 2 but with better looking sims and open neighborhoods. I also thought I was going to be able to edit the worlds outside of lots. How wrong I was..... :(
