Thinking about Getting Famous...

Oh boy, do I use Get Famous a lot - probably the most. Most of my played sims have some level of fame, though not everyone wants to do much with it. No one has really opted out, but yes, that is an option at a sim level or game level - they just don't earn fame. I use the media station the most, to make videos and the drones. They've fixed a lot of the issues since release, and there are mods if they are still not to your liking if you don't mind them.

Now for the opinion part - I love GF. It's fun, and I like Del Sol Valley - though I mostly just am at Studio PBP. That's where the Starlight Accolades are. I've been to other lots too when invited. Izzy Fabulous is a required character in my game, I just adore him. He's friends with most of my Thorpes atm lol. He's a personality for sure. I like most of the celebrities, Octavia Moon is one of my favorites, same with Brytani Cho. All of them add a little something to the neighborhoods, and I like seeing them jog past or whatever - it's better than Nancy Landgraab doing her 200th pass of my houses lol. I really quite enjoy the whole pack, though I have yet to do the acting career as I'm not a huge fan of active careers.

My sims learn all the skills from the pack though! And they have laid down a lot of music tracks on the music station...and received and lost music deals. I think the pack integrates nicely with the other packs, as there are many ways to get fame other than just the stuff from the pack. My teen sim just got Notable Newcomer for selling three paintings to collectors. There's more I love too, but my brain isn't working so well right now.

If you happen to have MCCC, most of your modding for GF is done already. Just an FYI.

To be honest, I don't really like the world. On top of being small, it feels small and there really isn't room for a middle class family without some major adjustments. Just upstarts and successful celebs.

As for the premades... *shrug* Trailer girl is fine. I've played with Ward the most, typically giving her a couple kids. No one is particularly offensive, but I'm not super attached either.

I do really like the BB, though, and the CAS is nothing to sneeze at. The career is fine. I've had some issues, but am pretty neutral as far as active careers go. I do especially like the lot traits that come with it. They are more important for celebs, but setting lots as established or not has been useful in my game.

Fame itself is fine. I like it much better than 3's and I like my perk trees. However, the quirk system is super spammy and can be pretty annoying. So are stans. I realize they are meant to be that way, but I feel we were not given the proper tools to deal with what is probably the darkest realistic official content. I left my doors unlocked exactly once and one came in and starting interacting with the children and just no. The only other fairly annoying thing besides the bugs is that I see my five star celebs walking around everywhere, and you will notice them be it shine or walk style or just how often you see their faces. It is pretty ridiculous sometimes.

Oh, and I guess befriending a celebrity as another Sim is super annoying, but that is supposed to be a selling point. Celebs do not make friends they do not approach easily. I am not too bothered over this myself, because of course there is a division there, but it could bother you.

There really is both good and bad to GF, and I am not super in love with it or its fame predecessors. However, as someone that doesn't particularly care about fame I have still gotten a fair bit of use out of it. I do not mess with the content creator stuff at all, or the filming drones. However, I do think that generic desire to be famous is an interesting starting point in life for a lot of Sims, whether they ever get there or not.

They do fawn over celebrities but not in a terribly bad way. Also, not everybody fawns. However you do not want a popular venue like a cafe or bar to be a celebrity hotspot, cause they will be swarming with paparazzi and other sims will only fawn and take pictures and faint. You can disable gaining fame by default but you can work on it if you want to advance for one particular sim, so it's not completely disabled. The world is pretty and there are some nice events, like singer celebrity sims spawn around town and sing and other sims listen, once a celebrity sim in my game fell asleep on a bench in the park and the fans gathered around him and chatted instead of taking pictures and stuff. There's some nice build and buy items and clothing from the movie sets, I particularly love the pirate ship. I have a sim who collects autographs from celebrity sims. There's more ways to play with fame, not just the actor career.

I've quite enjoyed Get Famous in the roughly 2 years I've had it. The world is pretty nice, although I feel like it should've been a bit larger or at least like it should have had a few more lots. The build/buy and CAS stuff is particularly fun if you have any characters who like to cosplay, have costume parties or similar things besides actually being an actor. As for the pre-mades, Octavia Moon is the kindest and most approachable, her husband is tied with Brytani Cho for the most obnoxious (in an unmodded game), and Judith Ward is sort of a fixture in many of my saves. I delete most pre-mades (from all packs) from my game these days, but I usually keep a version of Octavia and I age up Judith because she strikes me as an old-fashioned aging diva living in the past. The pack can be annoying at times in an unmodded game, but it's manageable.

I like the world, but it is really lacking more lots.
This is the one world that should have been as big and varied as Windenburg.
What a missed opportunity.

I did play it with a group of rising starlets and I have to say I did enjoy it immensely.
I really liked the objects in this pack.

@WildIrishBanshee I've created a Sim who is a lot like Izzy Fabulous, so I can understand what he brings to the party. I'm not sure I'd do the Acting career either, but the skills would be fun to work on. I can also see myself using the music station with some of my Sims...or creating one who would make producing music their "thing."

@Calico45 I took a closer look at the quirks, and I can definitely see how some of them could be unnerving or annoying. A stan coming in my Sim's house and chatting up their kid? Nope. And I've read about how celebrity Sims can't resist the urge to sashay, even in the privacy of their own homes. I can see how this would work for some Sims, but not others. I can't imagine Sean Connery or Lionel Messi walking like that, for example.

@crocobaura I'm glad the fawning isn't universal. One of my favorite Sim families has an Elder statesman, a retired attorney who enjoys fishing and meditation. He's a Level 10 pianist, and a Level 8 singer. He likes to put on his tuxedo, take his wife to San Myshuno, and sing a few classics at the karaoke machine. There's no way he would drop everything he was doing and gush over Baby Ariel. I like the idea of impromptu celebrity "sightings" in Del Sol Valley.

The only issue I have is that B-listers seem to get as much fawned over as proper celebrities. Would have liked to see a difference in number of paparazzi and number of fans.

You're very welcome. The creepier part of that story was it happened when I renovated an IL house. I usually lock the front doors anyway, but I didn't think about the back door because it led out to a deck. Both stans swam through the ocean, climbed the ladder onto the back deck, went into the house and started chatting up their kid. Totally creepy situation, even if I won't bash a game too much over something like that.

Anyway, I hope if you do get GF you enjoy it. With knowing all this, I'd still buy it.

@VeeDub If Octavia and Judith survived your premade purge, they must indeed be iconic. I don't mind having a couple heels in my world, either. Thorne Bailey does strike me as the kind of Sim I'd love to hate. The CAS does look cool, and I've noticed some attractive houses in the Gallery that make use of GF build items.

@CK213 I've read through your thread, and it's one of the reasons I became intrigued with Get Famous. I wish Del Sol Valley were a bigger world, too. Windenburg really does set the gold standard.

@Calico45 I believe it was @GalacticGal whose celebrity Sim had a creepy stalker follow him around...and show up on the set of his movie with no clothes on! The actor had to beat up the fan to make him go away. I'd prefer that interaction to the AquaStans.

I'm leaning in the direction of buying it. I think creating Sims who gain fame in different careers might be fun.
