I understand where the OP is coming from and fully agree. Like so many of you have posted, this game has been part of my life since day 1 of TS1, and provided countless hours of enjoyment, whether from creating or playing. Until TS4. Yes, I play from time to time, but it lacks the snap of the earlier versions, is more endured than enjoyed. It's a crying sham what EA/Maxis has done to a once stellar game. My consolation is that I can still play the older versions, back to the original. Having old computers kicking around is quite handy.
