As @happyopi pointed out, it's the posture. You can affect posture in CAS with a subtle vertical arrow over the person's upper back. Easiest to find when you have them in profile(from the side). Can go from chest out to reserved, or from healthy to scoliosis. It can really make a difference with a sim.
Addendum: Also, those two look like they are straight out of a young adult book of the 60's/70's, such as Hardy Boys. I honestly like it.
