Repeating what people said about RoM being could, but not living up to its full potential. But I'll add that potions are not worth it. They require hard to find ingredients and almost all of the potions are worthless. The only good one, Potion of Plentiful Needs, is unlocked very early and only needs an apple as an ingredient. Potions also barely make any money; some are worth much less than the ingredients used to make them. If you wanna play with potions, I recommend using mods and only focus on selling them.
Oh also, familiars are pretty much worthless. They're glorified drones that sometimes generate generic dialogue windows. Saving you from Death by Magic Overload is pointless because you actively work your butt off to try and kill off your sim.
For Eco Lifestyle, you can turn off NPC voting in the Options menu. That way, only the NAPS you personally pick will be picked. You don't even have to have any NAPS active. This is something you can easily ignore.
Spa Day is more of a "I'll play with this every once in a while" sort of thing, but you have a lot of options for hobbies: yoga (and teaching yoga classes, or taking part in them), working at a spa or making a spa out of your own home, being a massage-onist, being a nail technician. Wellness especially is a fun hobby, even if you might not use it all the time.
The Vet career is basically a simplified version of the Doctor career from Get to Work. It's not super deep, but it's fun and you get to make your own hours. But the world is honestly one of my faves: it's decently sized, scenic, has a good variety of lot sizes, and animals are everywhere.
I recommend RoM, Spa Day, Cats & Dogs, and Cottage Living. Look up the vet career and sees if it interests you. If so, I suggest going for it. It not, go with Cottage Living. If you have the cash for another pack, get Realm of Magic. RoM is underwhelming, but it's still fun.
