I feel like people have very differing opinions about making themselves or other real life people to include in their game. My main sim, Rose, is vaguely based on me (I'm not sure why I initially decided to make a version of myself since I never had played that way before, I always enjoyed making TV show characters or just made up characters to play). Anyway, my real name isn't Rose, and Rose is only vaguely me (I have red hair and glasses too - and that is where the physical similarities end HAHA, and I love pets and am artistic, two traits I gave Rose). I've really come to view Rose as a playable character and no way actually a playable version of myself, but back when I made her, I did have some fun creating some other approximations of people in my life to add to her life. Her sister and brother-in-law are low key based on my sister and her husband, and I made two friends for her based on two of my real life friends. None of them actually have the same names as anyone they are based on, and they honestly don't even look that much like their real life inspirations, but I've left them in my game, and I do enjoy them, and I think since they are not actual versions of myself and the people in my life, it makes them less awkward to play.My only exception for real life sims are my pets. ALL my pets (and sometimes even my friend's pets) get made into sim pets and do not get name changes - I very much enjoy having them in my game. @Simmingal yes, I totally get that! Rose is the awesome version of me - she’s fully skilled, has a lot of reward traits, and is generally awesome and invincible (literally lol - she died once in a cow plant incident and I revived her lol) I never meant to actually get so attached to her, but I think I just enjoyed playing a sim game with just enough of me that she became more special than any sim I had created before. I’ve been playing her since 2017 and while I create any play lots of other sims, she is one I always go back to. She started out single but now she has a wife and two daughters and I’ve loved slowly building up my entire main save around her

I once created my simself and my partner as a part of one challenge, gave them different names and thought I'd keep them in my game as unplayed sims. For a while I did, but then it just felt too weird and I deleted them.I see it could be fun, but for some reason it just feels too awkward for me :sweat_smile: :)

@haisin I think it helps that Rose’s partner is fictional (well mostly fictional, she *may* have originally been based off one of my celebrity crushes with a name change LOL)

I tried ages ago, not even sure whether it was TS2 or TS3. I made a common household counting myself and some of my RL friends, but after a while I dropped the project. I much prefer making random stuff or sims based on creativity rather than on RL.

I did make a sim who loosely resembles me for the sake of making an avatar picture, but I don't play her. Characters I make up are much more fun.

I think there's a whole bunch of people who make themselves and live out the life they want! That's why the skin tones were so important to a lot of people and why we have requests like body hair and disabilities. I wasn't around much for TS1 days, but I know that even back in TS2, making a simself and your crush or making your bullies and tormenting them were popular. And now we have so much more customization in TS4 to make yourself and others.

Even making celebrities, I don't know if people make them to play as them or just have around in town or just to see if they can do it in CAS.

I never really made simselves, even back in TS2! I can never get it right because there's never anything close to my signature hairstyles :D. Whenever I wear an afro, I wear a headband around my forehead. Whenever I wear braids, I have a bang in front and the rest in a ponytail. When my hair was straightened, it was short and bob-like with a single red streak. I could substitute, but it never really feels like me.

@mightysprite and @Simmerville i totally agree that made up characters tend to be more fun, which is why creating Rose as a pseudo simself was just a jumping off point. Chances are, I would have created a lesbian couple and given them kids anyway since that’s totally on brand for me lol, so making myself into a fictional character kind of had the same effect since I’m playing the family I wanted to anyway. I started enjoying playing Rose more once she met Carrie and had kids since adding more unique sims who had no real life connection to me

I also play like 20 other households as well with unique storylines so Rose and her family are just a small part of a big creative world. I would for sure get bored if they were the only household I played.

@izecson i love the idea of just releasing your simself into the world as a townie. That’s a fun balance of having a simself but not getting invested in playing a version of yourself.

I created my Sim Self strictly for my avatar. LOL I've already had a very full life, and don't care to repeat it, even in gameplay. Some of it is just too tragic to go through it again. But, I did make a Sim of my sixth great-grandfather, since there are likenesses of him available. I did it for the Challenge that came out with the Demo CAS back in 2014, before the game's release. Previously, I've done what the OP said. I made fictional characters to play. Mostly the ones from my mini-series in the Star Trek genre. The Cantrells were born out of that. I'm having a wild time playing them. But, for the first time ever, I've attempted to recreate the life of said great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. I know there are some who would say I was being disrespectful, but I'm not having them do anything beyond what they may have done themselves. I just don't 'share' that I've got them in my game, normally. And if you say anything I'll simply deny it. LOL
