Thoughts on making your Simself?

I feel like people have very differing opinions about making themselves or other real life people to include in their game. My main sim, Rose, is vaguely based on me (I'm not sure why I initially decided to make a version of myself since I never had played that way before, I always enjoyed making TV show characters or just made up characters to play). Anyway, my real name isn't Rose, and Rose is only vaguely me (I have red hair and glasses too - and that is where the physical similarities end HAHA, and I love pets and am artistic, two traits I gave Rose). I've really come to view Rose as a playable character and no way actually a playable version of myself, but back when I made her, I did have some fun creating some other approximations of people in my life to add to her life. Her sister and brother-in-law are low key based on my sister and her husband, and I made two friends for her based on two of my real life friends. None of them actually have the same names as anyone they are based on, and they honestly don't even look that much like their real life inspirations, but I've left them in my game, and I do enjoy them, and I think since they are not actual versions of myself and the people in my life, it makes them less awkward to play.

My only exception for real life sims are my pets. ALL my pets (and sometimes even my friend's pets) get made into sim pets and do not get name changes - I very much enjoy having them in my game.

Here is a picture my pseudo simself.

So what are your thoughts on making and playing your simself and other people in your life?

  • I've created my simself, but rather than play with her, I flipped her gender to male and play as him instead since I prefer to play with male sims. His gender preference didn't change though, so he's gay. He's a lot more fun!
  • My simself, Mason King, is a Teenage Spell Caster (Rank Virtuoso). He's an Adventurer, Loner, Geek, Bookworm, Art Lover, a Bro and a Foodie
His favorite Hobbies are hanging out with his Best Friends, Playing Soccer, Playing REFUGE and Sketching, Taking Long walks in the Forest around sunset. His Best friend Tyrion Jordan, is a Werewolf, the youngest of 6 werewolves born to Celeb Jordan heir to the great aristocratic, Jordan Family Dynasty.

I tend to play my simself across multiple generations. Technically all my sims are all my different personalities + the personalities that I enjoy the company of. Mason King is My Escape and Aspiration in Life, to be happy and surrounded by love, no matter what Daemons attack me. Only difference My sim Mason has literal daemons attacking him tho. His life isn't Happy go Lucky all the time, at age 7 His father was "Killed"/abducted, In real life my parents Divorced when I was 7. Tyrion is actually a preserved memory of High school friend I had, The Bromance that I wish had lasted to this day. Aria, Mason's Lover, is of course What I'm looking for in real life. Garrett, is Mason's Bully, (Sort of a cliche on how I am my own worst enemy) Garrett Is another copy of my simself designed to torment Mason, Although Garrett is more of the seemingly confident, outgoing, Headstrong, driven version, takes what he wants, and Mason is the most reserved keeps to himself version. (Don't worry the story ends with Mason and Garrett Becoming great friends (Love yourself cliche))

On another level, Mason is the Grandson of the most Powerful Spell casters to ever walk the earth. Archmage Lord Kaegan Charmont, his Grandfather, An Astronomer & Enchanter, Dreamer Bookworm. Have overthrown the Monarchy in the Kingdom of Briarheart in order to preserve what's left of the Kingdom, after the last Queen (Tyrion's Maternal grandmother) threw it into utter chaos. For the Queen's Treason, Kaegan Banished her into Oblivion (The Realm of Magic).
(Kaegan Charmont is my good side).

Long Ago, Kaegan's older twin brother, and previous Archmage Lord Daerick Charmont, was the most revered Spell Caster in the whole Kingdom He was a realist, a Doctor to most, He was interested in Psychology, and a very good Scientist. What happened? He succumbed to Dark Magic, when one of his experiments went to far, and he broke the barrier so that Daemons and spirits could roam the earth under his command. for His Treason, King Henry (Tyrion's Maternal Grandfather) commanded Kaegan banished Daerick into Oblivion, the realm where daemons came from. Kaegan spent most of his life, Fixing his Brother's mistakes, with the Help of King Henry.
(Kaegan and Henry were Best friends much like Mason and Tyrion are, and their Mothers, and grandfathers before them) (Daerick Charmont is my Deviant side.)

but those are just a few copies of my simself, There area couple of More, but their stories are a bit more complex.

  • Ever since I was a little kid, my main way of having fun was to make up characters and make up stories about the characters I made up. Regardless of whether I was playing with toys, dressing up and playing make-believe, writing the stories down, or just daydreaming, it was always all about making up lots of different characters and making up stories about who they are, what they do, and why they do it.

So, I suppose it's not surprising that when I found out about the sims games (I started with Sims 3) I just automatically did what I've always done. I made up characters and made up stories about them.

I've never made a sim (or a story character) that is meant to be me, but when I write novels and other creative writing, to really make the characters come to life I usually have to draw from my own feelings and experiences or aspects of myself. When I turn my sims playing into written stories, this is true as well.

So I suppose it depends on how deeply you want to look at it.

As writer's we are told we should write what we know. So, drawing upon our own experiences and feelings, would be writing what we know. I do the very same thing. My Trek Mini-series is published, too. :)

I would call what you're doing as living vicariously through your SimSelf — nothing wrong with that at all. I have a tendency to 'live' through my Sim, Erik Cantrell, who is a Rock Star, Global Superstar in this iteration.

With my Ancestral game save, I guess it's more that I want to be close to them, which is impossible since my sixth great-grandmother deceased in 1780, and my sixth great-grandfather deceased in 1815. I have written an historical novel, based on their lives, since I have a timeline of events to follow, but that's nearly done, so I turn to playing them in the Sims. Hope it's not disrespectful :open_mouth:

I made a simself a couple of weeks ago, but I named her different, because it felt wrong to me and I'm afraid of jinx myself, if I would do so. I let decide mccc what happened to the npc. Now she is in my decade save at the beginning of the 1930. Urgh. Mccc had decided that she should be married to a criminal. Hmm okay?!? At least he is quite handsome and have positive traits. It could be worst. :D
  • I personally dont make myself, I'm myself everyday, in game I want to play someone different, create dramas and chaos, the sims for me is having a break from real life including being me lol
  • I've a Sim who, in the beginning, was inspired by me. He was my TS2 test sim, my TS3 test sim, and my TS4 test sim. (He was also in TS1, but not as a test sim.) I tend to use the same houseplan for his starting home every time, and if I had more time (and access to my 2009 - 2016 PC) I could show that house as interpreted in each game. It's really an apartment that's realized in house form - one that is easily expandable. Anyway, I tend to think of him as more of a character in his own right instead of sim-me at this point, especially in The Sims 4 where he's become a celebrity chef, five start celebrity, and restaurant owner. :D His interests reflect my own (writing, cooking, hiking, singing), but he also does things I'd never do.

  • I don't have a Simself in-game because I've got enough Creator's Pet type characters in my stories without having to create a likeness of myself who'd likely become the biggest Marty Stu in the history of lousy storytelling! o:)

My forum avatar is of my little stuffed "children", two dragons and a dinosaur (L-R: Kasai, Brak, and Pyntie.) World doesn't need to see my ugly middle-aged mug even in Sim form.
