I am doing the 100 baby challenge and so I have decided to have a micro home(because lbh sooo much easier)

My question is how do you build a multi-storey house but still have the game register it as a micro home?

I have done it two ways: one is, make a 32-tile ground floor, usually I do 5X6 and then knock out an additional 2 tiles for a total of 32, by doing a diagonal half tile, then a full tile, then another diagonal half tile, perfect to make a "bay" window recess, just use full length narrow windows in those wall sections, and place a window seat the same size right in there, for a built-in combination dining nook/living room sofa that is comfy and takes little space. Assuming you have packs that give you those window seats.

Otherwise 5x6 with 2 porch tiles aside the front steps also works.

The upstairs doesn't count because it's attic, and you can put a ladder to it if it's against the flat wall part of the roof and still have space for a double bed in the middle against the opposite wall/window.

The other way I have done a micro home while having loads of space, is make a 32 tile basement, either 4x8 or 5x6 with the extra 2 tiles stuck on the side for a toilet nook or perfect sized closet. Then stairs or a ladder, and on the ground, make a roof. As big as you want, just not hipped as you need the flat wall parts for windows and doors.

I made a luxury a-frame house that way that still qualified as micro, because the 32 tile basement was the only "room" and the large roof which was wider than it was deep, to maximize natural light and view on the flat sides which were the front and back of the house.

To make a kitchen wall inside, I placed a taller half-wall on the side of where the stairs went down, to make it feel like the stairs were behind a wall, and then had a wall to put fridge, stove, and counters against. Did the same thing with another tall half wall on the other end where the roofline would slope down til it met the ground so I could put in a fireplace and build a cozy open concept lodge.

I couldn't build regular walls inside that or it would count as an additional room and no longer be a roof. But it made it possible to have a very nice open concept house with bedroom and bath in the basement, with 32 tiles.

The basement doesn't have to fit the roof, the roof can be way bigger than the room under it, and will sit on the ground if the room is actually underground.

In one save, I had a sim living in justa roof on the ground. No room at all. He saved his 32 tiles for an enclosed greenhouse because he was cultivating rare plants for profit. His fireplace kept him warm, and I made the overhang of the roof as large as possible, which gave him a covered outside area to enjoy like a covered porch, for free and no extra tiles.
