Tip to safeguard your paintings and photographs

I know a lot of us have been plagued with in-game photos and paintings going black for various reasons, sometimes reversable, sometimes not. Today it happened in my game. For no good reason, all paintings Abigail made of her and Joseph's honeymoon to Windenburg were black. I had hoped to keep them for future generations so it upset me quite a bit.

Then I discovered I had a much older save hiding in my list, so on the off chance that they weren't corrupted there I opened it and there they were. So how to get them into my current save? Well I simply made a room with just the paintings in it, saved it to my library and then I could download it into the active/current save from there.

From now on, if I have pictures that I feel are important in game, I will make sure to do this with all of them, thereby protecting them from corruption. I hope this can help anyone save their pictures too, before they are irreparably corrupted by whatever patch or update that we might get down the road.

  • Great advice!  I think I did something similar, via my library, but can't remember if it was just a room with one photo or painting. It's several RL years ago, but I recall that the artist's name did not transfer, which made sense as it originated from a different save. When I did something again recently, I think it was a painting, to my surprise the artist's name was included. Nothing better than if all info is transferred, but anyway in most cases the visuals is the most important.

Btw, these days I create my family heirloom paintings (and some photos) as CC in Studio. Much easier than it might sound. It's based on screenshots which can be altered with filters etc, and the best thing is they feel safer than in game paintings and photos.

  • I started making a back up of photos taken by my sims a while ago, after I lost some. They are all saved in rooms on my library. I have been adding a # to them as well so I can quickly filter on them in my library.

So I did this as well. I make each family I play and save the room to the library. HOWEVER, when I placed the room after a different time to add on, they were black. So is there an easier solution? Now, I'm not sure anymore.

  • That's clever atreya33 I think I'll copy that for mine too. Right now I only have the one, but I was thinking about adding to it from one of the other characters.
