It might help to get them on a schedule, let them play with blocks and toys or a tablet, get them to interact with family, more time to play then feed them and before you know it they are tired. Though I've kept a lot of tots that just works for me, if they have a nightmare I cancel out them runnig to bother someone they won't sleep but they will nap until it passes.
When one of my recent toddlers had a nightmare, she'd wake up her older brother instead of the parents -- he was good about helping her get back to bed after comforting her. I've made that part of my gameplay and the two siblings will remain close.
